History Of Motocross

Motocross is a type of cross country motorcycle race. It is made up of a number of types of racing, vehicles, exhibitions, and styles. In order to understand what the sport is you must first learn about the history. From there you can understand what is involved.

This sport began during 1924 in Camberley, Surrey, England. It was here that the first match took place. However, it would still take years before it became more popular. The Federation International de Motocyclisme was created in 1952. This became the first European motocross championship that used 500cc engines. In 1957 they began to add the 250cc engines as a way of bringing in more competition from other parts of the country.

For years this sport was dominated by the Europeans until the Japanese began to make a foothold during the late 1960’s. It was during the time that they created a new variety of bikes and introduced them to the market. During the late 1970’s and on through the 1980’s the Unites States came on board and raced internationally.

The FIM Grand Prix and the American Motocross Association’s American National Championship are the two most popular motocross series. The Grand Prix is the longer of both of these and is made up of more than sixteen rounds. Though this is historically the European Championship it has also had popularity from South America.

The American Nationals will start in early May and continue on to the middle of September. It is made up of twelve rounds and twelve tracks. The Motocross des Nations is also quite popular and takes place after the national and international championships have finished. During the race three teams – representing their countries – will compete with each other in different classes.
